Civic Science USA: Engaging Students in Community Projects
Summary
CELF's Civic Science program cultivates STEAM skills of data literacy, systems thinking, teamwork, and much more through guided implementation of CELF's Inquiry to Action framework, inviting students to develop their own place-based inquiries to drive learning through hands-on exploration of local sustainability and environmental justice challenges.
During this kick-off event for our 2023-24 program, we invite educators of grades 5-12 to join us in becoming familiar with CELF's Inquiry to Action framework, building community with fellow sustainability-minded educators, and learning about resources and opportunities that will be available to you and your students during the upcoming school year, including:
-Microgrants to support student field trips and/or project implementation tools and resources.
-Year-round support to ensure successful implementation of Civic Science student projects, including virtual sessions focusing on community mapping, data analysis, and digital storytelling; virtual office hours; and one-on-one coaching support.
-Digital curricular resources on various pathways of study.
-CELF's Student Symposium events in Spring 2024, serving as opportunities for authentic for students to present their Civic Science research findings and pollution prevention and remediation plans with community stakeholders and decision-makers.
-Teacher stipends upon program completion.
